From Tavia’s point of view

 

Alister and I met quite by chance, a night where we were both coaxed out by friends to a bar called “Oblivion” in Harfield Village. We were literally squished together in the heaving party crowd. I remember apologizing and then looking up at Alister and noticing his long long eyelashes (first), and second that he was not as young as the rest of the boisterous crowd  - Niiiicccee…..is what was going through my mind.

I would almost say it was “love at first sight” but he was pretty drunk and I was determined to stay single (for a change) ....But at the end of that night we were kissing under the eaves in the pouring rain. He asked for my number but was sure I was giving him a fake one and made me take out my phone in order to call me and check it was real. He told me later that he was determined not to let something that felt that right - get away…(sweet)

 

April 27th – 2007 – a night to remember.

So much for my Mum saying “you’ll never meet a decent guy in a bar.”

We started dating immediately and there was no looking back. That was the beginning of our incredible, fun-filled journey together. 16 years later, 2x beautiful children and lots of life experience - we are stronger than ever!

 

Alister proposed on the beach on a Hot tropical stormy night in the Seychelles. It was romantic, tumultuous and about bloody time!

 

So here we are - finally making this official. 

We really look forward to spending this special day with you, our dearest friends and family.

From Alister's point of view

I almost scared Tavia away on that first night as I left her numerous voice messages up until 4am in the morning, whilst I was still out with friends at Tiger Tiger. The repeated message was simply “Bye bye cruel world, coo coo ka choo”. I knew I had met someone special if she could withstand that insanity and still answer my call the following day.

Not long after we had started dating, Tavia was diagnosed with Cancer. My belief that I had met “the one” was solidified with that challenging journey. Tavia tackled it with such bravery, strength and grace.

Fast forward to now, >>> we beat Cancer, we have two amazing children and Tavia had all but given up on marriage….. - but all wars must come to an end, so bring on Armistice Day 2023.
